Road to supercapacitors for scrap tires Posted: 25 Sep 2015 08:21 AM PDT Some of the 300 million tires discarded each year in the United States alone could be used in supercapacitors for vehicles and the electric grid using a technology. |
'Fossils' of galaxies reveal the formation and evolution of massive galaxies Posted: 25 Sep 2015 05:55 AM PDT Astronomers have observed massive dead galaxies in the universe 4 billion years after the Big Bang. They discovered that the stellar content of these galaxies is strikingly similar to that of massive elliptical galaxies seen locally. Furthermore, they identified progenitors of these dead galaxies when they were forming stars at an earlier cosmic epoch, unveiling the formation and evolution of massive galaxies across 11 billion years of cosmic time. |
Extremely dense: Approaching a poorly understood state of matter Posted: 23 Sep 2015 05:34 AM PDT Warm dense matter displays characteristics of all other physical states at the same time, in apparent contradiction. Scientists have now developed a new simulation technique which overcomes the inaccuracies of existing theoretical models in describing this state of matter. |
